Sunday Stamps # 168

Hello hello and welcome again to Sunday Stamps.

It's a beautiful warm Spring evening here in the great American mid-west.
Our theme is of children and for children.  My first stamp to share is this one from Greece:

I can tell this is a Unicef stamp but not much more than that.  This stamps moves me because my daughter, when little, had short brown hair like this.  Even a sleeveless little dress and boots like this.  I never liked to see her sad.

The next stamps are from Indonesia.

These feature the SOS Children's Villages. Through Google I find they are a group advocating for children's rights.

We help families care for their children. We provide quality alternative care for children who cannot live with their biological families.

We strengthen families
SOS Family Strengthening Programmes help keep children in the care of their family.  We support disadvantaged families at risk of separation by bolstering their capacity to protect and care for their children. Strengthening safety nets within the community is key.  We run over 2,300 programmes that cater to more than one million children and adults around the world.
We have an individual plan for every child in our care
Children, who cannot be cared for by their biological families are supported by family-based carers either with foster families or within our SOS Children’s Villages. SOS families provide individualised care to promote the development, education and health of each child. In partnership with communities we develop local infrastructure and run kindergartens, day care centres, schools, vocational training centres and medical facilities. We provide over 80,000 children and youth with family-based care.
I was unaware of this organization until now.  More information is available at the Wiki entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SOS_Children%27s_Villages.  How wonderful they have a stamp to promote this organization.

Sunday Stamps # 167

My this week went by fast! It seems like just a few days ago that I put up my last Sunday Stamps post. I have also been participating in the A to Z challenge over at  my other blog, http://viridian61.blogspot.com/. Over halfway done with the month, and the alphabet!

How has this week been for you? I hope it was a good one.

Our theme this week is zodiacal and zodiac signs on stamps.

I have been wanting to have this theme for some time, and it has been suggested by a reader at least once.  Alas, I did not have any stamps for such a theme until now.  A Postcrossing card recently arrived from Sri Lanka with the following stamp:

Here is the constellation Scorpius.  The stars in the sky behind the outline appear to be in the right positions (I used to watch the stars more than I do now and still remember their positions).

Do you have any zodiac stamps to share this week?

I have a page on Facebook: keep up with my infrequent  stamp, postcard, and quilt posts at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Viridian61/347674418583948?ref=hl

Sunday Stamps # 166

Good evening friends, or good morning if you are reading this on Sunday morning.  It is a lovely evening, 75 degrees F   (24 C) so I guess Spring is finally here.  The grass is greening up!

Time for Sunday Stamps.

This week's theme is: old or vintage stamps from your own country.
I received the group below recently on a Postcrossing postcard from the USA.

The 4 cent stamp I would say is from the early 60's given the date on it.  The other two stamps are from the 1970's.  US postage stamps have never been devalued.  You can use old stamps, back to 1865,  for current postage, according to Wikianswers. [This is NOT the case for all countries.] Of course, you will need several stamps to equal the postage due today.  And check the value of some of those old ones!  They may be worth more unused.

What vintage stamps can you share this week?

Sunday Stamps # 165

It's Saturday night, and it's a bit warmer in the USA Midwest. Could Spring be around the corner?  My daffodils are growing but have not yet bloomed.

Well it might be time for Sunday Stamps.

Our theme this week is anything you wish.  Now I KNOW you have something to fit this theme!!
I'd like to share a stamps from a recently received card from Bulgaria.

Enlarge these perhaps. There is a bit of detail.  These appear to be two stamps of a series showing beautiful artifacts from the varied history of Bulgaria.  I wish I could decipher the Cyrillic letters.

Join me today in sharing any stamp you wish, perhaps one that may not fit a common theme.

Theme next week: old or vintage stamps from your own country.
Theme two weeks from now: Zodiacal and zodiac signs stamps.
